As teachers, parents, and mentors of young people, we frequently find ourselves explaining what a particular reaction should have looked like, but we never take the time to explain how that reaction could have been achieved. The answer is mindfulness. Mindfulness is a simple but powerful technique to focus attention, manage emotions, handle stress, and resolve conflicts. Instead of simply telling youth to do these things, we can show them how, enabling the student to make wiser decisions in the heat of the moment. We live in a fast-paced and high-stress world. Our culture places immense value on continuously remaining busy. This lifestyle fosters disconnected relationships and a high-pressure climate; the stress we experience is undoubtedly passed on to the young people we mentor. This stress impairs the effectiveness of our educational system and inhibits key parts of the brain that are necessary for daily learning and effective response to stimuli. Anchored Change teaches a curriculum that brings improvements in concentration, attention, and empathy, all while building a climate of calm among students. Upon completion of the youth program, students will be empowered to stabilize attention, employ self-regulation, and understand and exhibit empathy. Mindfully Anchored is a nonprofit public charity that focuses on spreading mindfulness through community service and activism. Having a mind that is calm, focused, and empathetic allows students not only to increase their scholastic aptitude, but also to lead more satisfying, happier lives.
Mindfully Anchored, Inc. is a non-profit, public charity. Through donations, we lead community outreach projects as well as provide services to our community’s underserved youth. Collectively, we teach young people and adult leaders to use and spread mindfulness throughout our community. We offer classroom lessons and professional development seminars to educate young people and their adult mentors about how to be mindful in all they do.
We are guided by a vision of our community as confident and kind people, adept at making mindful choices. We believe that the best way to achieve this is to teach young people in our community to live mindfully in each moment. By planting this seed, our youth will have a solid foundation to impact our community in a positive and meaningful way, while living their best lives!
Our mission is to empower members of our community to live mindfully in all aspects of their lives. To do so, we must raise awareness of the benefits of practicing mindfulness, as well as share the tools needed to practice. We prioritize youth education and the education and practice of the leaders they observe in day-to-day life at home, at school, and in the workplace.
